Storyline (GTA IV)

We haven't got lots of information about the story of GTA IV, because the game isn't released yet. However, there are a few previews and trailers, which give us a little bit information about the plot. There will be practically no characters in GTA IV from the previous GTAs. The mafia will play a part again, but it won't be very important. The length of the storyline is similar to those of the previous GTAs.

Roman

The story is all about an East-European, Niko Bellic, who emigrates to Liberty City (United States) after his cousin Roman insists to that. Roman, who emigrated to America earlier, sent his cousin an e-mail in which he said that he totally made it in Liberty City. Niko decided to go to America, to also experience the American Dream. Niko wants to escape from the problems in his homeland. What Niko did before he went to Liberty City, is still unknown, yet he killed, smuggled and sold people, according to the first trailer. In the third trailer someone asks another if he is the one, who was attacked for a few millions. It is possible that he talks about Niko's past and about Niko's comment in the second trailer: "I'm the one that survived".

When he arrives in Liberty City, it is clear that Roman lied to him: instead of leading a successful life, he runs a taxi company in Broker and he has problems with crime organisations. In the third trailer, Roman hides, because he thinks he is being followed. Later on he is threatened in his own office. Niko gets also involved in Romans problems. They end up in chases and shootings, and they will be kidnapped and questioned by someone who perhaps is someone of the police of government. The same character is at the end of the trailer, at a shooting, but now he tries to stop someone desperately.

Looking for that special someone

Another plotline which seemed to be important, is Niko's search for a certain male character. In the second trailer, Niko says that he is searching for ten years, but who and why Niko searches is still not clear. Niko ensures someone that he will find that person, which can mean that he is looking for someone else. In the second trailer, Niko kicks down a door together with Roman. That's the house of someone named S. Crone. Perhaps he has something to deal with Niko's search.

Other plot lines

In the last two trailers there are some characters, who play a part in the storyline and who perhaps give assignments. Interesting is that you can see a woman, who begs in the second trailer to stop with murdering, in the third trailer on images on the wall. There a man sends away another in anger.

One of the missions is about killing a lawyer, Tom Goldberg. This is an assignment of Francis McReary, a corrupt cop, which blackmails Niko for things from his past.
The screenshot about a blown-up safe, and the police unit which stormed the bank of Liberty City, suggests that Niko has to rob a bank in the game.
In the last scene of the third trailer, two gangsters give Niko the choice to join with something or get shot, which forces Niko to agree.
