A shotgun is a gun with a short but wide range. The weapon fires a large number of small bullets or 'slugs'. A direct hit can knock an opponent backwards, making him vulnerable until he is back on his feet. Shotguns are also very powerful against vehicles. However, a shotgun has to be reloaded after every shot, decreasing its firing rate.
GTA Vice City introduced various kinds of shotguns, some of which could fire multiple shots without reloading.
Gangmembers of the Leone Family carry shotguns, making Portland a very dangerous area for Claude after he killed Salvatore Leone.
You reach the 'gangster level' at 20% weapon skill, and 'hitman level' at 100%.
