Roman Bellic is Niko's cousin. He was born in an unspecified Eastern-European country, but moved to Liberty City in the United States around the year 1993. He sends Niko e-mails about his successful life in America, which eventually causes Niko to decide to follow his cousin's example and move to Liberty City himself. After his arrival, he discovers Roman has lied to him: he only runs a taxi company, is in huge debt and is in trouble with several criminals.
