Entertainment Software Rating Board

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (abbreviated to 'ESRB') is a North American rating board for video games. It judges games for bad language, violence, nudity, drugs and more. Although rating isn't required, most games in countries using the ESRB are rated and many retailers do not sell unrated or Adult Only rated games.

Grand Theft Auto at the ESRB
The Grand Theft Auto series often received a Mature rating, because of the violence in the games. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas initially got this rating too, but this was changed in Adult Only after the Hot Coffee incident. The new version of the game, with the option to install the Hot Coffee mod disabled, got the Mature rating again.
