Grand Theft Auto IV is the first GTA with multiplayer since GTA2, with the exception of the PSP-versions of the Stories. In this multiplayer you can play with a maximum of 16 persons. Every mode will be played in Liberty City, the normal single-player map, which means that there will not be a exclusive multiplayermap. Normal NPCs will walk in the city. Players can change the looks of there characters, as for sex, race, clothes, etcetera. You have a choice between the following multiplayermodes:

Deathmatch	One player	2-16	Kill as many players as you can, and pick up the money they drop. At the end of the game, the player with the highest amount of money wins.
Mafiya Work	One player	2-16	Earn as much money as you can, before your opponents do.
Car Jack City	One player	4-16	Steal cars and deliver them to a certain point, with low damage, so you can earn money and be the winning player!
Team Deathmatch	Team	2-16	Kill as many players of the opposite team as you can, so you're team has the most money at the end of the game.
Team Mafiya Work	Team	3-16	Earn as much money as you can, before your opponents do. But play as a team.
Team Car Jack City	Team	4-16	Steal cars and deliver them to a certain point, with low damage, so you earn money, and at the end of the game your team might win!
Cops n' Crooks One for All	Team	4-16	The crooks need to go to their vehicle, where they are safe, but the cops have to occur this.
Cops n' Crooks All for One	Team	4-16	The crooks need to bring their leader to a vehicle, where he is safe, but the cops have to occur this.
Turf War	Team	2 teams	Conquer as many territories as possible, and make more money than the other team does.
Race	Race	2-16	Race as fast as possible to the finish, following a certain route.
Free Race	Race	2-16	Race as fast as possible to the finish, driving your own route.
Cannonball Run	Race	2-16	Race as fast as possible to the finish, by going in to some checkpoints.
GTA Race	Race	2-16	Race as fast as possible to the finish, following a certain route, and try to impede your opponents.
Deal Breaker	Co-op	2-4	Sabotage the deal of the Angels of Death Outlaw Motercycle Gang, by working together with other players.
Bomb da Base II	Co-op	2-4	Make a ship sinking, by working together with other players.
Hangman's NOOSE	Co-op	2-4	Bring Kenny Petrovic in safety, by working with other players.
Free Mode		2-16	Play free with other players, without having a certain goal.
